City of Forest Day
"Image, Action, and Environment is a course at Parsons that celebrates the role that photographic documentation plays in the environmental movement. Many amazing acts of stewardship and care go unnoticed or unrecognized because the volunteers or stewards are too busy doing the work. Sharing the process with photographs can help communicate the community connections that make New York City a greener place."
"City of Forest Day took place for the first time in the fall of 2022 and students in the course Image, Action, and the Environment, engaged with a handful of organizations to learn about stewardship and community action. They studied each organization, visited relevant landscapes, gardens, and parks, and were tasked with the job of documenting a City of Forest Day action."
"Students were invited, if they chose, to put down their cameras and participate in stewardship, in cleaning, planting, watering, pruning, and other greening efforts."
